Starting with the positive

The number of positive messages from our community through the White Heart Project continues to grow. Be sure to spend some time in the vestibule by the Level 1 staff entrance to read them all. They include a nice message from Valerie Anderson, retired Director of Clinical Information. Click on the image to enlarge and read her message.

What’s new?

New directions allow discharging inpatients to Retirement Homes
On April 16, Ontario Health “temporarily paused” the ability of hospitals to discharge inpatients to either long-term-care homes or retirement homes. Now, it will allow transfer of hospital patients to retirement homes in certain circumstances where this is safe to do and in the best interest of the patient.

These transfers should only occur if the receiving home is not in a COVID-19 outbreak, the patient has been tested for COVID-19 at the point of discharge and is determined to have a negative result, the patient being transferred must complete 14-days of self-isolation upon arriving at the home and the home has a plan to ensure this occurs.

In its April 23 update, the Ministry of Health outlines all that’s being done to support the crisis in long-term-care homes

Resources and Supplies

Staff Support

Great reminders found on posters and LED displays around the building:

More thermometers available for purchase
All staff should be monitoring themselves for symptoms of any illness and taking their temperature at least twice per day. These days, drug stores are often out of thermometers so a supply has been set up for staff to buy. The thermometers are available at switchboard for $14, tax included. They are for staff purchase only – first come, first served.

Please remember to fill our our COVID-19 Staff Feedback survey!
A big “THANK YOU!” goes out to the 186 staff who have filled out the survey so far! We want to hear from as many staff as possible about how well we are doing with supporting you through the COVID-19 pandemic. Please share your thoughts, comments and ideas with us. The survey is anonymous and short so we hope you will respond. Click here to complete the survey today! If you have any questions about the survey, please email covidquestions@gghorg.ca

The Wellness Society has created a Coronavirus Anxiety Workbook for adults to work through. Plus, they have shared a children’s story book to use with your children.
