Volunteers

Alert: Please be advised that all of our volunteer programs are suspended at this time. This includes all volunteer placements, interviews, orientations and on-boarding until further notice. Applications are still be accepted, however they will not be processed until our volunteer programs are reinstated. Our volunteers help GGH provide the highest quality care and experience for patients and their families.

We are fortunate to have over 250 volunteers working together in over 20 different roles to create a positive and memorable experience in every interaction with patients, visitors and staff. Our volunteers contribute over 15,000 hours of their time each year to help provide the highest quality of care and experience for patients and their families.

A Diverse Group

Approximately 45% of our volunteers are adults, 45% are in university or college and 10% are in high school.

We offer a variety of commitment options so that there is something for everyone. There are many benefits to volunteering at GGH.

Becoming a Volunteer

We are always looking for people to join us. The process to become a volunteer has many steps, which take approximately 6-8 weeks to complete after a successful interview. These steps are in place to ensure that each volunteer is safe to be in a hospital environment and has the appropriate training for each volunteer role.

Age Requirement

You must be 15 years old to volunteer in the Courtyard Boutique and the Patient Visiting Program. You must be 18 years old to volunteer for any of our other volunteer positions.

Plan Ahead

Please plan ahead and apply several months before you hope to begin volunteering. Your volunteer shift will be on the same day, at the same time, in the same area every week.

Year Round Volunteering

Volunteers are asked to commit to one shift per week for a period of one year. Applications are accepted anytime of the year.

School Year Volunteering

Volunteers are asked to commit to one shift per week during the school year. Applications may be submitted between January – April 15 for a September start date.

May-August Volunteering

Volunteers are asked to commit to 1-2 shifts per week. Applications may be submitted between October – January 15th for a May start date.

July-August Volunteering

Volunteers are asked to commit to 2 shifts per week. Applications may be submitted between January – March 15 for a July start date.
